A Coastal Canine experience awaits…March 11, 2020
Heading up the A26 on the new stretch of dual carriageway towards Cloughmills, the signs for Ballycastle start to appear. Some 20 miles cross country towards the Coastal town and you begin to see the Causeway Coastline as you arrive in Ballycastle. The Marine Hotel was rebuilt and completed in 1991 and has been under the current ownership since 2013. The hotel sits in an envious position overlooking Ballycastle beach with views over to Fairhead, a harbour and playpark all on your doorstep. This venue is exceptionally dog friendly, and hence their decision to apply for the GOLD PAW Grading Program® Audit to recognise the superb service and facilities on offer.
The reception provided a host of dog friendly information upon check in, including the dog friendly dining areas of which there are two – the Costa Coffee Lounge and the Library area.
With 42 bedrooms, 5 of which are dog friendly which includes 2 Executive rooms, 1 Family room and 2 Standard rooms, the rooms are spacious and bright. The Executive King room overlooks the stunning harbour and beachfront, and has a small balcony which during the summer months will be a great additional space to watch the world go by.
A fantastic dog friendly welcome basket is in the bedroom on arrival and included a towel for post beach walks, a blanket, a weather guide, a jar of treats, a Welcome Note, two dog bowls and some toilet pads should the pooch happen to have a wee accident.
With such close proximity to the beach, you can try out the newly installed boardwalk which runs past the tennis courts to the rear of the golf club, and build up an appetite after a long walk. A super dog menu which includes fish, chicken and beef with vegetables is available to tantalise your dog’s tastebuds. The hotel has an excellent Chef in Pol Shields so the humans are exceptionally well catered for too! The staff provide table service and will also offer to mind your dog should you be travelling alone and need to use the facilities.
A great deal of thought has gone into the dog friendly experience at the Marine Hotel, and with such a stunning location and so many local attractions such as Game of Thrones sites, Forest Parks, villages and beaches on your doorstep, a dog staycation is a must for dog owners.
